Today is Ascension Day in Norway. We are celebrating that Jesus Christ was enthroned at the right hand of the Almighty God. This should have been one of the biggest celebrations in the year, but it has become just another religious holyday with no meaning other than a day free from work. Even most of the Christians don’t celebrate the Ascension Day properly now a days.
When I grew up in the Lutheran prayer house movement, the Ascension day was a day of big conventions. I used to travel with my friends to large gatherings and a day full of meetings and fellowship. I still remember these large gatherings with great joy.
The new churches and charismatic fellowships normally don’t make anything out of any of the special Christian Holydays in the calendar. I think it is a great loss. God instituted in the Old Covenant special days of remembrance and holy convocations for the covenant people. These days and gatherings helped the pius people of God to keep a fresh focus on their roots and their ongoing pilgrimage as they rejoiced in the mighty deeds of the great I AM.
I have been working hard to make some concrete stairs the last few days. I only have some fences left to get in place. But today I am taking rest. I will read and rest, I will meditate and write, I will pray and enjoy fellowship with my risen Lord Jesus Christ.
