This morning my attention was brought to a several Scripture verses on the all inclusiveness of the New Covenant. In the last days all people, sons and daughters, old and young, men and women, will be filled with the Spirit and prophesy. We may all come to the Father through one Spirit. We have all been baptized with one Spirit and have been given to drink of the Same Spirit. We may all prophesy. We are all supposed to bring with us something from the Lord to share with others when we meet as the church. We are all members of the same body, we all need each other and belong to each other. We are all ministers of the new covenant. We are kings and priests ministering to the Lord. We are brothers and sisters in the same family. We have all been born from above and have an anointing remaining in us.
This all inclusiveness of the new covenant community is really revolutionary! This is the ground on which we function as the body of Christ. However, in the body there are many different members and functions. There is great variety when it comes to members and functions in the body. If there was only one member, where would thew body be?
In the very same chapter in 1 Corinthians where the apostle is teaching about the inclusiveness of all the different members of the body, he is also saying that not all are apostles, prophets, teachers etc.. Even though we are all kings and priests, even though we are all part of the prophetic community, there is still different functions according to the measure of grace or anointing sovereignly distributed to each one of us by the Holy Spirit. This is the mystery of Christ in which we are all partakers. We are heirs of the same God, members of the same body, we are partakers in the same promises, to still to each one of us a certain measure of grace has been given. We all need to acknowledge the measure of grace given to us and allow it to enfold its full potential in us at the same time as we allow our brothers and sisters reach their potential in Christ and function accordingly.
