A few days ago I read a sentence in a Psalm that will not leave me. The Psalmist is praying: “O Lord, do good to those who are good, whose heart are in tune with you.” This last sentence has followed me ever after I read it! –“whose heart are in tune with you.” These words capture the very essence of the Christian life, – being in tune with God! It is worth noticing that it is only those who are good that can be in tune with God for God is good. God is as he is supposed to be, holy, perfect, kind, just, faithful, righteous, true, patient, full of mercy, – he is good!
This has become my prayer: “Let my heart be in tune with you! May I reflect your loving attitudes to all human beings in my dealings with people. May I always hear your voice and be quick to obey the promptings of your Spirit!”

Excellent, Erling! ‘Being in tune with GOD’ really communicates well and emphasises the life in the Holy Spirit.

I was certainly not good, but far from it when I encountered God and became in tune with him. The scripture you’ve used does not exclude the ‘bad’ anyway, but its wrong to say that ONLY those who are good can be in tune with him.
Of course, because of his mercy and love, and my consequent sonship I desire to be good. But my salvation does not depend on my being good does it?
Nevertheless – your prayer is a good one! -

According to Jesus, only one is good, and that is God! And he is good and kind to everyone! He lets the sun shine on both bad and good people! Because we are falling short of his glory, we are all dependent on the merciful grace of God.
Still I think it is impossible to be in tune with God if we persist in our evil ways! What fellowship is there between light and darkness, good and evil, bad attitudes and good intentions? In the same degree that God has been allowed to work some goodness and kindness into our life we will be in tune with him.
I even believe that non Christians that are good and kind are more in tune with God than those who are unkind and wicked in their dealings with their fellow human beings.
Salvation is by grace alone! Otherwise none of us would have had any chance since there is too much badness or shortcommings connected to us.
But God is good! And in his goodness and kindness he has saved us by grace and is working his character into our lives!
