I have spent some time with the prophet Zechariah the last few days. I have been struck by his zeal for his people. Actually God is jealous, he wants his church for himself!

He wants to restore his people to himself as a covenant community that is walking humbly in his presence. Being humble is giving God what he wants, doing his will in everything! God is crying: Give my people back to me! Let me have my church my way!

God wants his covenant people to show faithful love and practice loyalty in all relationships. He wants his people to be kind and merciful, not hard-hearted or evil. He wants his covenant people to speak the truth in love. He wants us to be peacemakers, not warmongers! He wants the covenant community to be a place of pure joy and happiness.

God is restoring to himself a holy people. He wants a community that is different from the religious or secular communities of our age. He wants he people to be different in a good sense. He doesn’t wants us to be foolish or strange, but wise, gentle and kind. He is restoring purity and a good life to his people. The holy people of God is marked by the holy presence of God and his merciful power. God is looking for those who are wholehearted towards him, who dedicate themselves totally to him. He is looking for those owned by the Spirit, those always available to the Spirit, – the humble people that is led by the Spirit.

In the covenant community of God’s people there is no artificial gap between old and young. The covenant community embrace everyone and give room for people as they are and for what they are.

God wants a bold people. God is raising up a fearless people. God is restoring a people that is heeding the prophetic voice and obeying the prophetic words of the Lord. Peacefully we will be able to sow the divine seed of the gospel, in faith and trust! The vine will yield its fruit. The fields will bring forth a great harvest. The heaven will refresh us with dew!

Nations will turn to God. Cities will turn to God. All kind of ethnic groups will seek God. All kind of people from all walks of life will seek the Lord, – as they see the blessing of God on his people! As people see that God is with his covenant community multitudes will turn to God.
