Recently I received this comment on my entry on the Ten2b virus:
The people I’ve talked to in Europe have told me that there are plenty of churches, but attendance is down and there’s plenty of room for more people. Are you meaning to "plant" new churches, or build up the existing churches?
You are right that Europe is full of empty church buildings. And the way the services are arranged in the empty buildings is one explanation why they are empty! Jesus and the apostles represent a different way of doing church. In the first 300 years there were no church buildings at all! The community of God’s people, the church, met in homes! The gatherings were open gatherings where all ministered to one another and not a pre-programmed service of a few active professionals and a passive congregation which is the pattern of the empty churches today. We want to see thousands of new house churches being started everywhere by and with the new disciples. The harvest is plentiful! The workers are few. We pray for workers to come forth from the harvest! We want to see ten thousands of new disciples!
Actually we need many new churches! And we need a new kind of churches! The old traditional churches of Europe are loosing ground. In Norway the national State-church is no longer a voice of classical or evangelical belief as the church is more eager to exclude the conservative priests from office than to make sure that the remaining priests live according to the plain teaching of the Bible. Even so called conservative bishops support the exclusion of conservative priests, but they work very well together with the liberal bishops who ordain practicing homosexuals as priests and work to make sin acceptable.
