As usually I met with the leaders of the church for prayer this Tuesday morning. We were having a good time in the presence of the Lord. Then a big truck passed by the round window towards the street on outside of our building. It was driving slowly enough for me to read the message written on the lorry. It was kind of a unusual sentence. Was it meant to be an advertisement or a slogan? The message was catching my attention because it seemed to convey a hidden message. On the white lorry it was written i big black letters these words: White paper. All nuances.
White paper. That is simple. I can handle that. I know what white paper is. It is just paper ready for printing or writing. Everyday I use white paper. White paper is blank paper ready for a new and fresh beginning of artistic work or just scribbling.
All nuances. These words struck me like a contradiction. They threw me into confusion. White is white. Paper is paper. White paper is white paper. That’s it. That was my normal way of looking at it. But these two words "all nuances" changed my preconceived idea of my reality. Sudden I realized that there are more nuances in my life than I normally think. It also dawned on me that there are more nuances in my friends and in my circumstances than I normally realize. Life is richer than I appreciated in my narrow-minded way of one-dimensional-living.
All nuances. These words opened up a whole new world to me. White paper. All nuances. Off-white paper. Snow-white landscape. Wool-white under-ware. Narcissus-white painting. Cream-white paper. Marzipan-white paper. Antique-white paper. Bleached-white paper. And even simple white paper may come in many variations of thickness and softness. Thin white paper. Stiff white paper. Thick white paper. Heavy white paper. Soft white paper. Light white paper. Handmade white paper and factory-made white paper. Every factory is producing its own brand of white paper.
Now, I realize that white paper is much more than just white paper. There are many more nuances than I am able to describe. God speaks to us in multiple ways. He certainly surprised me this morning by speaking to me through words of advertisement on a lorry which I saw during an early morning prayer-meeting. He is saying: Open up your eyes to the many nuances of a life in the Spirit. Don’t limit yourself to the one-dimensional way of living by your normal senses and human understanding. Life is much richer when you see it from the perspective of the Living Spirit. Allow him to surprise you by his nuances of white in your life.
