A few days ago I received the Joel News with a report on my friend Silas from Sikkim. I took this picture on the sunrise in Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim when we were with Silas. I want to share this exciting news of how God is using my friend with all my other  friends!

God in the Himalaya: terrorizing demons have to leave

Silas is a church planter in Northern India. Before he received Jesus 15 years ago he was a witchdoctor and before that the leader of a rebel group that lived in the mountains. A number of years ago during a training in Kathmandu Silas felt called to plant a church in Namchi, a large city in Sikkim, which now has about 80 new believers.

One day Silas met a lady named Dilo who received Jesus. Two years later he went to her village Gatong to see if the seed had taken root in her heart.
It had and she soon invited her friends to meet Silas, and he led them to Jesus as well. Early on Silas had discovered that Gatong had been terrorized for many many years by a mysterious creature they best described as a ‘dragon’. Frequently a large creature with a odd-shaped head and large body would fly over the village at night. When it came, there was no mistaking it – the locals said the sound was like the roar of a train. When it flew over the village, if its shadow cast over a person, that person would be ill the next day. If the ‘dragon’ upon its return flight had a ‘red glow’ to it, and its shadow cast itself across a person, the person would die by morning. The whole village was terrorized by this ongoing experience.

As Silas and his wife stayed in the village, they fought this creature (which apparently was a demonic spirit) in prayer, together with the new Christian believers. It took two years of fighting in prayer, but the dragon has not flown since. The villagers who are Buddhists and Hindus attribute it to the prayers of the Christians. Dilo is now the pastor of a church which has over a 100 new believers and has since planted two more churches in nearby villages.

Another village one hour outside Kathmandu had been hostile to Christians.
They resisted any missions or church efforts. At one point a few years ago one of the ladies in the village came to Kathmandu for a Christmas party held at the a local church. The lady had been possessed for 22 years and began manifesting at the party. The Christians cast out the spirits and she was free. She went back to her village and preached Jesus. The village now has 30 or 40 converts to Christ.
