While visiting Kalimpong in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal a few days ago a young girl approached me. She was radiant as the sun with a big smile and bright shining eyes. She spoke softly but intensely as she proclaimed these words full of conviction: Kalimpong is on fire by the Spirit of God.

Certainly the Spirit is moving powerfully in these hill areas of the Himalayas. We saw many people being filled with the Spirit speaking in unknown tongues for the first time in their entire life. We also saw a good number of people beginning to prophecy. The word of the Lord came with power and conviction by the Holy Spirit. We saw young and old people, sons and daughters, teenagers and adults, being moved by the Spirit.

As the Spirit of God was moving among the covenant community an unbeliever from a Buddhist background realized his need of committing his life to Jesus Christ. No one gave a gospel message, no invitation was given to turn to God, but this man was convinced by the Spirit of God at work among the disciples of Jesus that he needed to repent and submit his life to the Lord Jesus Christ.

We heard reports from many places of how the covenant communities were working hard to bring the good news of salvation by grace of God only to people with little success. The covenant communities were all slowly growing in numbers, but the growth did not match their hard work.

Then this young girl stood in front of me proclaiming that Kalimpong is on fire by the Spirit of God. I knew she was right. I could see many signs of a new generation being raised up by the Spirit. There is a new generation of faith and boldness on the move. The fire of God is burning in their hearts. Soon this fire will spread all over this area. The hearts of the older generation will be turned towards the younger generation. The hearts of the younger generation will likewise be turned to the older generation. Together they will be marked by the visionary fire of the youth and the passionate wisdom of the old. Together they will multiply disciples and covenant communities will spring up everywhere in the hills of the Himalayas, not only in Kalimpong or the district of Darjeeling, but in Sikkim, Bhutan, Nepal and the entire Himalaya region. The fire of God is spreading!
